60 Years of Transforming Visions into Reality
Legacy of Excellence: For six decades, Grissim Metz Andriese Associates (GMA) has been a beacon of design excellence, creative innovation, and client satisfaction. Founded in 1965 as Eichstedt and Grissim Associates, GMA has left a lasting mark with landmark projects such as SeaWorld in Ohio and Florida, Ford Motor Co. World Headquarters, and GM Tech Center, solidifying its position as an industry leader.
Expanded Relationships: The firm’s journey continued with the vision of John Grissim, who, in collaboration with esteemed clients such as Ford Motor Company, Parke-Davis, and Whirlpool, forged new paths in design. After Ed Eichstedt’s passing in 1977, John Grissim redefined the firm’s direction, as John Grissim Associates, strengthening client relationships and expanding the firm’s influence across the industry.
Artistic Talent: In 1985, the firm welcomed Randall Metz, PLA, FASLA, whose architectural and artistic expertise propelled GMA to national acclaim. Randy’s impactful work on projects such as Ford Motor Company Regent Court, Greenfield Village and The Somerset Collection became synonymous with the firm’s commitment to design excellence.
Collaborative Growth: The firm’s journey of evolution and collaboration began in 1993 when it became Grissim | Metz Associates. By 2002, it transitioned to Grissim Metz Andriese Associates to reflect the contributions of new principals Susan Grissim, PLA, ASLA, who joined in 1990, and Paul Andriese, PLA, ASLA, who started in 1984. The leadership team expanded again in 2018, with the promotion of Richard Houdek, PLA, ASLA, LEED AP BD+C, to partner after joining the firm in 1988.
Dynamic Leadership: In 2020, the leadership team expanded with the promotion of three new partners, Kathy Neirynck, Steven Endres, and Alexandra Pearson, PLA, ASLA, reinforcing the firm’s capabilities and commitment to client service. The retirement of Randall Metz in 2023 marked another transition, with Richard Houdek, stepping into the role of President – the third in GMA’s storied history.
Commitment to Excellence: GMA’s legacy is sustained by a team of talented landscape architects, who bring both creative vision and technical expertise to each project. From intimate courtyards to large-scale developments, the firm combines innovative design with a deep understanding of client needs, delivering personalized service that brings visions to life.
Experience the Legacy. Celebrate the Present. Embrace the Future.
